MATUKE for farm people safety
In North Savo is 3500 agricultural and horticultural companies, which are employing about 7000 people. In addition agriculture employs large group of contractors, sales and administration workers and family members. Accidents and small damages happens very often in agricultural and forest farms. Those could be avoided with systematic risk analyses and preparation. Approximately 10% of farm level working people are involved in accidents in working environment every year.
Farm safety development project ( MATUKE) is aiming to increase farm safety degree to new level permanently. The key topic of the MATUKE project is educate farm workers to basic safety manners. Also owners and farm manager’s role to orientate new employee to safe working environment is an important topic. Project is targeting to educate 480 persons and 1154 days of participation in North Savo Area.
MATUKE project will be operated in North SAvo during 1.8.2018-31.12.2020. Savonia UAS is coordinating the project. Ylä-Savon Koulutuskuntayhtymä (later YSAO) ja Luonnonvarakeskus (later LUKE) are associated partners. Project financing is applied from European Social fund as an education project. Education, information and coordination are the elements of this project.
Work package 1 is education. Each of 6-8 hour education days are planned for 10-15 person and consist of practical education. After theory part day lessons consist of practical part. Most of the education days will be held in Safety training ground of Kuopio (TTHA). Also Peltosalmi Agricultural school of YSAO is offering good facilities for practical education.
Work package 2 is information about education and raising safety issues for farmers and employees. Most important safety devices, guards and safe working manners will be introduced for farmers in aerial agricultural and forestry events. Project will produce a mobile application for orientating and controlling farm safety.
Third work package will consist the development of agriculture applications of Safety training ground of Kuopio (TTHA). The planning process includes the number of applications, location, implementation plan and documentation. The network of companies participating to the implementation will also be built.
Savonia UAS is coordinating this project (Work package 4). Organization has a long experience to handle aerial and national projects reliably and co-operation with partners is already well known. In this project aerial and national experts are used in special and demanding parts of education.
As a result of this project farm safety level in North Savo will increase. Due this agricultural and forestry farms will be more interesting place to work for new employees.
